Varenna, Lake Como Italy is without a doubt my favorite destination I have visited thus far. Arriving in Varenna by train from Milan is a treat, with beautiful views all along the way. Once in Varenna, it is a short walk from the train station, some up hill, into the village. There are many options for lodging including B&B’s, Albergo’s and in our case an apartment in the heart of this stunning and quiet village. There is so much see while in Varenna, it is lovely to stroll throughout this village and its piazza for shopping and dining on exquisite cuisine. If you wish to visit other villages on Lake Como there is a ferry available from Varenna which is affordable, convenient and a delightful way to see the lake. While there, we rented a small boat for the day, packed a picnic lunch and toured the lake at our own pace, experiencing the breathtaking villas, views and going for a swim in the clear water. There is a an overwhelming peaceful feeling that came upon me instantly on arrival and stayed with me throughout our days there. It is a destination I will return to as often and I can.
